Biography
Halie Wyckoff (formerly Halie Douglas) is a harpist, composer, arranger, and teacher based in Denton, Texas. Originally from Odessa, she began playing the harp in sixth grade and quickly fell in love with the instrument. In 2020, she moved to Denton to pursue her studies at the University of North Texas, where she earned a Bachelor of Music in Composition with a concentration in harp.
At UNT, Halie studied harp under Dr. Jaymee Haefner and composition with Dr. Sungji Hong, Dr. Zvony Nagy, and Dr. Kirsten Soriano. She primarily composes sacred choral music and chamber works featuring the harp.
Some of her most notable compositions include Missa Domini Pastoris for choir, organ, and harp; Every Sound a Flower for solo harp; and In Amorem Incideris for harp trio. She also recently composed Arise for harp and baritone, which she performed with her husband at their wedding.
In addition to composing, Halie is passionate about arranging music for harp ensemble. Her arrangements include The Avengers, Ashokan Farewell, Lovely, and Ave Maria. She performed her Avengers arrangement with the UNT HarpBeats at TMEA in 2023 and the American Harp Society Conference in 2024.
Halie is also an active performer. She plays harp with the North Texas Symphony Orchestra and has appeared in a variety of ensemble settings. Outside of UNT HarpBeats, she performed the National Anthem with the Permian High School Band and Orchestra at a Chicago White Sox game in 2018, and toured Scotland with Satin Strings in 2019, performing at the internationally attended Sterling Bridge Festival.
Today, Halie devotes much of her time to teaching. She serves as the K–5 music teacher at Founders Classical Academy of Corinth and offers private harp and piano lessons. In addition to her teaching and composing, she enjoys performing at weddings and special events.
